Frequently Asked Questions

What is an alias?
  • Email aliases allow you to have an alternate address that is directed to your main email account. For instance, Matthew Daniel may want the email matt@yourdomain.com for his personal email, but a more professional matthew.daniel@yourdomain.com for business. An email alias would allow mail sent to the alias matthew.daniel@yourdomain.com to be sent to the real mailbox of matt@yourdomain.com.

If you need email aliases, please contact our Customer Support and we will add them for you.
How do I use Webmail?
  • Webmail can be used as an easy way to receive and send messages while out of town. You can also use Webmail to regularly send and receive email messages, rather than using an email client. Webmail allows you to view the messages on the server using a browser without downloading email to your computer.

To access Webmail. open your web browser and enter in the address bar https://mail.yourdomain.com, replacing yourdomain.com with your own domain. Then, enter your assigned email address and password and click the Log In button.
How ClamAV Antivirus works on our mailserver?
  • ClamAV is powerful antivirus software that can scan your email and the mailserver for malicious files. It works like an antivirus program on your computer, but ClamAV scans our mailserver. Specifically, ClamAV looks for malicious email attachments and malicious server files.

    Basic features of ClamAV:

    1. ClamAV is designed to scan files quickly.
    2. Real time protection (on Linux server). The ClamOnAcc client for the ClamD scanning daemon provides on-access scanning on modern versions of Linux. This includes an optional capability to block file access until a file has been scanned (on-access prevention).
    3. ClamAV detects millions of viruses, worms, trojans, and other malware, including Microsoft Office macro viruses, mobile malware, and other threats.
    4. ClamAV’s bytecode signature runtime, powered by either LLVM or our custom bytecode interpreter, allows the ClamAV signature writers to create and distribute very complex detection routines and remotely enhance the scanner’s functionality.
    5. Signed signature databases ensure that ClamAV will only execute trusted signature definitions.
    6. ClamAV scans within archives and compressed files but also protects against archive bombs
How SpamAssasin AntiSpam works on our mailsever?
  • SpamAssassin is the #1 Open Source anti-spam filter to classify email and block spam (unsolicited bulk email). It uses a robust scoring framework and plug-ins to integrate a wide range of advanced heuristic and statistical analysis tests on email headers and body text including text analysis, Bayesian filtering, DNS blocklists, and collaborative filtering databases.

    Features of SpamAssassin:

    1. Wide Spectrum: SpamAssassin uses a wide variety of local and network tests to identify spam signatures. This makes it harder for spammers to identify one aspect which they can craft their messages to work around.
    2. Easy to extend: Anti-spam tests and configuration are stored in plain text, making it easy to configure and add new rules.
    3. Flexible: SpamAssassin encapsulates its logic in a well-designed, abstract API so it can be integrated anywhere in the email stream. The Mail::SpamAssassin classes can be used on a wide variety of email systems.
    4. Easy Configuration: SpamAssassin requires very little configuration. Once classified, site and user-specific policies can then be applied against spam. Policies can be applied on both mail servers and later using the user's own mail user-agent application.
